ZZZ Anniversary Selector Guide: Best Free Character and W-Engine to Choose

Selecting the right free limited S-Rank Agent and W-Engine during the Zenless Zone Zero anniversary event is a key decision that can greatly affect your account progression. The ideal choice is not always the Agent with the highest individual damage output. A valuable selector pick should strengthen your existing teams, continue to provide value as more characters are released, and make full use of a powerful signature W-Engine.

Considering overall account improvement, team flexibility, current combat performance, and long-term potential, Lucia is the most recommended choice for most players, while Jane remains an excellent alternative for players who are looking for a strong main damage dealer.

Overview

The Version 3.1 anniversary selector allows players to select one limited S-Rank Agent from Lucia, Jane, Trigger, Soldier 0 Anby, and Hugo. In addition, players can choose one limited S-Rank W-Engine from the corresponding selection pool.

Since the Agent and W-Engine choices are independent, players are not required to select a matching combination. However, pairing a character with their signature W-Engine is usually the most effective option, especially when the weapon plays an important role in maximizing their performance.

For most accounts, the recommended priority is:

1.Lucia + Dreamlit Hearth

2.Jane + Sharpened Stinger

3.Trigger + Spectral Gaze

4.Soldier 0 Anby + Severed Innocence

5.Hugo + Myriad Eclipse

This ranking is based on overall account value, team compatibility, current strength, and future usability. However, the best choice can vary depending on your existing roster. A lower-ranked Agent may become the perfect selection if your account already has the teammates needed to maximize their potential.

1. Lucia and Dreamlit Hearth – Best Overall Choice

Lucia is considered the strongest anniversary selector option for players who want long-term account value. She is an Ether Support Agent specializing in Rupture teams, providing important benefits such as HP support, Sheer Force improvements, damage enhancement, healing, and additional utility.

Unlike traditional damage dealers who mainly compete for field time, Lucia focuses on improving the performance of an entire team archetype. This makes her value more stable as the game continues to introduce new characters.

Lucia becomes especially valuable for players who already own or plan to build Rupture-based teams. Main DPS characters may eventually be replaced by stronger damage dealers, but a specialized support character with unique team functions can remain useful for a much longer period.

Her signature W-Engine, Dreamlit Hearth, is the ideal partner for Lucia. It provides HP-related benefits and improves her Energy management while enhancing the support effects connected to her kit. As a result, Lucia can maintain smoother rotations and provide stronger assistance to the team’s main damage dealer.

Choose Lucia and Dreamlit Hearth if you:

1.Already have a strong Rupture DPS

2.Plan to invest in future Rupture characters

3.Want the safest long-term anniversary selector choice

4.Prefer improving an entire team rather than adding another damage dealer

Lucia is also a valuable duplicate option, as her early Mindscape Cinema upgrades can further increase her support capabilities.

The main reason to consider skipping Lucia is that her value depends heavily on the Rupture playstyle. Players who do not own any Rupture characters and have no plans to invest in this team type may gain more immediate benefits from options like Jane or Trigger.

2. Jane and Sharpened Stinger – Best DPS Choice

Jane is the top anniversary selector option for players who are looking for a reliable main damage dealer. As a Physical Anomaly Agent, she excels at quickly building Physical Anomaly and triggering powerful Assault damage. Her high mobility, dodge-focused mechanics, and strong on-field pressure allow her to perform well in both early progression and challenging endgame content.

Jane has gained even more value with the addition of newer characters such as Remielle and Velina. These three characters can form a powerful triple-Anomaly team, where Jane takes the role of the primary on-field damage dealer.

In this team setup, Jane consistently applies Physical Anomaly and triggers Assault effects, while Remielle and Velina contribute through their own Anomaly mechanics, team buffs, and shorter field-time requirements. This allows Jane to maintain strong damage output while benefiting from additional team support.

Her signature W-Engine, Sharpened Stinger, is designed specifically around Jane’s fast-paced and mobile combat style. It enhances her Physical damage output and improves Anomaly Buildup efficiency when its conditions are active, allowing her to trigger Assault more frequently and maintain consistent pressure during battles.

Choose Jane and Sharpened Stinger if you:

1.Need a strong main DPS for your account

2.Enjoy playing Anomaly-focused teams

3.Lack a reliable Physical damage dealer

4.Plan to build a team around Jane, Remielle, and Velina

Jane ranks slightly below Lucia because damage dealers usually face stronger competition as new characters continue to be released. However, for players without a developed Rupture lineup, or for those who specifically want to play Anomaly teams, Jane may provide more immediate value than any other selector option.

3. Trigger and Spectral Gaze – Best Utility Alternative

Trigger is an Electric Stun Agent who provides both Daze application and additional damage while spending much of the battle off-field. This allows the team’s main DPS to remain active for longer periods instead of frequently switching characters to build Stun.

Besides her Stun capabilities, Trigger also increases overall team performance through her unique support mechanics. She is especially effective in teams that rely on Aftershock mechanics or characters who benefit from extended field time.

Trigger has excellent synergy with Soldier 0 Anby, creating a strong Aftershock-focused team core. However, she can also support various other damage dealers who appreciate reliable off-field Daze generation and additional team utility.

Her signature W-Engine, Spectral Gaze, plays an important role in maximizing her potential. It improves her Stun performance and can provide additional offensive value by reducing enemy DEF after her Electric Aftershock damage is triggered, benefiting the entire team.

Choose Trigger and Spectral Gaze if you:

1.Already have strong DPS characters

2.Need a high-quality Stun Agent

3.Want to build Aftershock-focused teams

4.Prefer a support-oriented character who improves existing teams

Trigger is ranked third because her overall value depends more heavily on team composition compared with Lucia’s broader account benefits. For players who still need a main damage dealer, Jane is usually the more impactful choice.

4. Soldier 0 Anby and Severed Innocence – Strong Electric Carry

Soldier 0 Anby is an Electric Attack Agent focused on fast combos, critical damage, and Aftershock-based offense. She performs well as an on-field damage dealer, especially in teams that can provide consistent Stun windows and support Aftershock mechanics.

Her gameplay revolves around maintaining aggressive attacks while taking advantage of her Electric damage abilities. With the right teammates, she can deliver strong burst damage and maintain consistent pressure throughout combat.

Her signature W-Engine, Severed Innocence, greatly enhances her damage potential by providing a significant CRIT DMG increase. Basic Attacks, Special Attacks, and Aftershock abilities can generate additional stacks, and reaching maximum stacks further increases her Electric damage output. This effect naturally fits into her standard combat rotation.

Choose Soldier 0 Anby and Severed Innocence if you:

1.Need an Electric DPS character

2.Already have Trigger and want to complete an Aftershock team core

3.Enjoy fast-paced on-field Attack gameplay

4.Want a character with strong personal damage potential

Soldier 0 Anby ranks below Trigger because a powerful off-field Stun character generally provides more team-building flexibility, while an Electric main DPS competes directly with other existing and future damage dealers.

5. Hugo and Myriad Eclipse – Most Specialized Pick

Hugo is an Ice Attack Agent designed around powerful burst damage during enemy Stun windows. His gameplay focuses on maximizing his Totalize mechanics, allowing him to deal impressive burst damage when the team creates the right conditions. However, compared with other selector options, Hugo requires more specific team setups and more careful rotation management to reach his full potential.

Hugo performs best when paired with strong Stun Agents who can consistently create opportunities for his burst attacks. Because of this, his strongest team compositions are generally more limited compared with characters that provide broader team benefits.

His signature W-Engine, Myriad Eclipse, is highly effective for maximizing Hugo’s personal damage. It provides valuable CRIT-related stats and allows certain Ice attacks to ignore a portion of enemy DEF after using abilities such as EX Special Attack, Chain Attack, or Ultimate. In addition, it can also function as a strong stat-based option for some other Attack Agents.

Choose Hugo and Myriad Eclipse if you:

1.Already have suitable Stun teammates for his preferred teams

2.Want a powerful Ice burst damage dealer

3.Enjoy characters with high damage ceilings and specialized gameplay

4.Specifically plan to build around Hugo’s Totalize mechanics

For players who are only considering selector efficiency, Hugo is the least flexible option among the available choices. His performance can be excellent, but he requires more investment in team structure compared with characters like Lucia, Jane, or Trigger.

Final Recommendation

For most players, Lucia with Dreamlit Hearth is the strongest anniversary selector combination thanks to her excellent long-term value and ability to enhance Rupture teams. Her support capabilities allow her to remain useful even as new characters continue to be introduced.

For players who prioritize immediate combat power, Jane with Sharpened Stinger is the recommended choice, especially for newer accounts, Anomaly-focused players, or those who want a reliable main DPS.

Trigger is the ideal selection for players who already have strong damage dealers and want a premium Stun support option.

Soldier 0 Anby is a great choice for players building Electric or Aftershock-focused teams.

Hugo is best suited for players who already have the required teammates and want a specialized Ice burst damage dealer.

Before confirming your anniversary selector choice, take a moment to review your current roster and identify which role your account needs most. The best selection is not always the strongest individual character — it is the Agent that helps you complete a stronger and more balanced team.
