Genshin Impact's Valeriy: A Full Guide to Kit, Gameplay, Weapons & Materials
Among the new arrivals expected in Genshin Impact Version 7.2 is Valeriy. Current leaks paint him as a 4-star Electro Sword character, with a kit that blends shielding, Electro application and reaction support. What separates him from a standard shield-only support is a unique resource, Impact Potential, which fuels his special Charged Attack and strengthens the damage buffs his Assault Command stacks hand out.

Valeriy's kit looks closely tied to Stellar-Conduct teams, , and this guide covers everything currently leaked about him — gameplay mechanics, passive talents, Constellations, and Ascension and Talent materials.
Valeriy Overview

Rarity: 4-Star | Element:Electro | Weapon:Sword
Shielding, Electro application and damage buffs all come together in Valeriy, a 4-star Electro Sword support who leans hard into Stellar-Conduct teams.
At the center of his gameplay sits Impact Potential, a unique resource his Elemental Skill and Burst generate. The Skill grants Impact Potential and creates an ATK-scaling Electro Shield, while reaching the required amount lets his Charged Attack transform into Mortar Fire: Close-Range Barrage. Doing so spends the stored Impact Potential and grants Assault Command stacks, which boost the active character's Electro damage.
Valeriy brings both defensive and offensive utility without requiring much field time to the table, a product of his shield and his damage-boosting mechanics.
All in all, he's built to be a flexible Electro support whose synergy peaks in Stellar-Conduct-focused teams.
Valeriy Kit
Valeriy's Normal Attack
A three-hit sword combo makes up Valeriy's Normal Attack, and it deals Physical DMG.
Normally, his Charged Attack is nothing more than a standard sword strike. Once Valeriy has built up 40 or more Impact Potential, however, the same input transforms into Mortar Fire: Close-Range Barrage.
- Mortar Fire: Close-Range Barrage
Of all the tools in Valeriy's kit, Mortar Fire ranks among the most important.
With at least 40 Impact Potential stocked, Valeriy can trigger his special Charged Attack; it then spends every point of Impact Potential available and delivers AoE Electro DMG in front of him.
Valeriy gains 15 stacks of Assault Command after Mortar Fire has been used.
The amount of Impact Potential spent also carries weight: Valeriy's passive raises Assault Command's damage according to how much Impact Potential was consumed.
TIPS: A key gameplay loop emerges here:
Generate Impact Potential → Use Mortar Fire → Gain Assault Command → Switch to the active DPS → Consume Assault Command with Electro attacks.
Valeriy's Elemental Skill
- Offensive Defense: Fortress Advance
Currently, Valeriy's Elemental Skill goes by the name Offensive Defense: Fortress Advance.
On activation, Valeriy advances forward, generates 40 Impact Potential, creates an Electro Shield, and deals AoE Electro DMG.
ATK is the stat behind Valeriy's current leaked shield, setting it apart from the HP-scaling shields that many traditional shielders rely on.
Against Electro DMG, the shield is reported to absorb incoming Electro attacks at 250% effectiveness, giving it heightened absorption.
Based on the Level 6 values that have leaked so far, the Skill lands roughly 232.4% ATK as Electro DMG, while an amount equal to about 292.5% of Valeriy's ATK + 2,074 gets absorbed by the shield.
You'll have the shield up for about 18 seconds, and the Skill itself comes back around every 10 seconds.
Valeriy's Elemental Burst
- Firepower Focus: Thunderous Assault
Firepower Focus: Thunderous Assault — that's the name Valeriy's Elemental Burst currently carries.
AoE Electro DMG is dealt by the Burst, which also fires off a Thunderstorm Shell; that shell then breaks apart into repeated bombardments raining down on the battlefield for extra AoE Electro DMG.
The initial hit of the Burst sits at approximately 189.2% according to the current leaked Level 6 values, with each Thunderstorm Shell hit listed at 44.1%.
The Burst has:
Duration: 12 seconds
Cooldown: 15 seconds
Energy Cost: 60
Beyond the damage it brings, the Burst matters because it gives Valeriy a way to regenerate Impact Potential.
Electro attacks landed by the active character nearby will generate 5 Impact Potential for every qualifying hit, so long as the Thunderstorm Shell remains active. The grand total from this effect, however, is capped at 80 Impact Potential per Burst.
This is why Valeriy's Burst acts as the bridge between his Impact Potential mechanic and the support side of his rotation.
TIPS:
So a standard rotation often goes: Valeriy's Skill comes out first, his Burst follows, and then you swap to the main DPS. Their Electro attacks then add even more Impact Potential to the pool, and all the while his support effects are working in your favor.
Valeriy: Passive Talents
Accompanied by Advancing Barrage
For Valeriy, this passive ties directly into his Elemental Burst.
Impact Potential flows to Valeriy whenever the nearby active character lands Electro attacks, as long as the Thunderstorm Shell is up.
Every qualifying hit delivers 5 Impact Potential, and per Burst, that gain is capped at 80 Impact Potential.
With this passive on hand, Valeriy can keep building his resource even when another character is the one on the field.
Charge the Breach
How much Impact Potential Mortar Fire consumes decides just how much stronger Assault Command becomes, thanks to Valeriy's second Ascension Passive.
Under Stellar-Conduct, the Assault Command bonus scales at 0.9% of Valeriy's ATK for every Impact Potential point consumed.
Each point consumed away from Stellar-Conduct instead contributes about 0.3% of Valeriy's ATK.
Exploration Passive
As an exploration passive, Valeriy boosts rewards from Snezhnaya's 20-hour Expeditions by 25%; Nod-Krai is not included.
It's largely a quality-of-life perk, with no direct effect on his combat performance.
Valeriy's Constellations
- C1: Energy Recovery
C1 makes Valeriy's Energy flow smoother once Mortar Fire has been used.
6 Energy can be restored by the special Charged Attack, and consuming Impact Potential past the initial 40-point requirement adds further restoration based on that extra amount.
At most, it can restore 15 Energy, and roughly 15 seconds must pass before it can trigger again.
Another part of C1 changes the first Elemental Skill Valeriy uses once a fight begins, giving him a stronger start to Impact Potential generation.
All told, the Constellation smooths out how Valeriy cycles through his Burst and the related resource mechanics.
- C2: Elemental Mastery and Shield Utility
Once Valeriy triggers his Elemental Skill, C2 hands out 100 Elemental Mastery to nearby party members, and that buff sticks around for 18 seconds.
It also opens up a conversion for excess Impact Potential: the moment Valeriy hits his resource limit, whatever spills over is turned into extra shield absorption.
The absorption gained from each extra point scales with Valeriy's ATK, and in the leaked version available right now, the conversion tops out at 20 excess points.
Defensive utility and a teamwide Elemental Mastery buff come together in this Constellation, which widens Valeriy's supportive role in a big way.

- C3: Elemental Skill Level
C3 pushes Valeriy's Elemental Skill Level up by 3.
Both his shield strength and his Skill damage benefit directly from that bump.
- C4: Increased Impact Potential Capacity
Two gains come with C4: Valeriy's maximum Impact Potential goes up by 30, and his Impact Potential generation rate climbs by 30%.
A larger resource pool means he can bank more Impact Potential before firing off Mortar Fire, while the quicker generation brings his next support cycle around sooner.
There's also built-in synergy between this Constellation and Charge the Breach, since Valeriy's support scaling hinges on how much Impact Potential is consumed.
- C5: Elemental Burst Level
Valeriy's Elemental Burst Level climbs by 3 with C5.
The initial Burst hit grows stronger from this, and the damage of Thunderstorm Shell rises as well.
- C6: Enhanced Mortar Fire and Stellar-Conduct Support
Valeriy's own damage output and his Electro support both receive a significant boost at C6.
Reports indicate that this doubles the damage output of both Mortar Fire: Close-Range Barrage and Thunderstorm Shell.
Once an opponent is hit by either effect, Valeriy receives a 10% CRIT Rate boost to his Electro damage lasting seven seconds.
Should that Electro damage be treated as Stellar-Conduct reaction damage, an extra 40% CRIT DMG is applied on top of it.
So at C6, the Electro damage Valeriy deals personally becomes far more impactful, while his synergy with Stellar-Conduct teams grows even stronger.
Valeriy Weapons
Confirmed details about his signature weapon are not available at the moment. This section will be updated for you as soon as possible.

The Best Teams to Build Around Valeriy
Judging by what has leaked of his mechanics, Valeriy's clearest team role is as an Electro support for Stellar-Conduct teams.
Defensive value comes from his shield, while Impact Potential and Assault Command give the active character extra damage support.
He also seems to pair especially well with Mitya, since the current leak for that character's kit places heavy emphasis on Stellar-Conduct and Elemental Mastery.
One beta team that has been reported features Mitya, Valeriy, Odetta, and either Sucrose or the Cryo Traveler, but because it comes from pre-release information, treat it as a tentative lineup, not a final team recommendation.
How well these teams ultimately perform will hinge largely on the multipliers he receives at release, the conditions needed to trigger his kit, and exactly how Assault Command behaves.
Conclusion
If you're getting ready for Version 7.2, most of the Ascension and Talent materials Valeriy will need can be farmed already. Bear in mind, too, that his kit and Constellations are not final, and even some terminology could shift before release. As things stand, though, he looks designed to serve as a defensive Electro support, one who can substantially boost damage and reaction utility when he's slotted correctly into an Electro-focused team.
