AFK Journey Rolan Build Guide: Best Teams, EX Weapon, Charms, and PvP Setup

AFK Journey officially gained Rolan on August 6, 2026, and he landed in the S-Level Celestial Support slot with what ranks among the most overloaded kits the role has ever received. Healing? Of course. Cleansing? Naturally. Crowd control, damage reduction, copied Ultimates and teamwide ATK buffs round things out — the fox king seems to have read “support” as a mandate to do nearly everything at once.

Rolan Build Overview

Rolan’s ascension path stays fairly smooth throughout. Cleansing, healing, HP redistribution and team buffs are all online from a single copy, while each upgrade tier — Mythic+, Supreme+, EX — layers on something meaningful rather than patching up a base kit that never worked to begin with.

Rolan’s Morale System

Battle opens with Rolan at 20% Morale. From there, the team’s total climbs by another 10% any time an ally casts an Ultimate or takes down a non-summoned enemy, while an allied non-summoned hero falling costs the team 10%. Should Rolan himself die, all Morale is stripped away permanently, so keeping him alive is not merely advisable — it’s the entire team’s job description.

Every 20% Morale grants all allies an ATK increase, part of which is calculated from Rolan’s initial ATK. His active blessing then targets the two allies that have dealt the highest cumulative damage, boosting their ATK and leaving them unaffected for ten seconds. At the 60% Morale mark, those same allies also gain 50 Haste.

Rolan’s comfort in multi-core teams comes directly from that two-target design. Instead of demanding one hypercarry and ignoring everyone else, he can simultaneously support a main DPS and a secondary carry — an especially valuable trait in Lightbearer formations.

His Ultimate, Oath in the Stone, wipes out dispellable debuffs, levels the HP percentages of every non-summoned ally, raises their maximum HP by 150%, restores a huge amount of HP, and grants 15% Morale. That temporary maximum-HP bonus decays across 12 seconds.

The supplied PvE notes highlight this as the “oversized shield” effect. A normal shield it technically is not, but on high-deficit stages it behaves exactly like one: the team’s effective health pool suddenly swells, allies get pulled away from death, and time opens up to launch the first Ultimate chain.

The largest group of allies is healed by his second skill, Clemency’s Edge, which also lowers the damage they take for ten seconds. Should the team reach at least 60% Morale, Rolan follows up by hitting the biggest enemy cluster and stunning it for three seconds.

A single support slot can cover crowd control, Haste, carry buffs, damage reduction, emergency recovery and cleansing. His early PvP evaluation captures exactly that idea by calling him a lone hero who performs the jobs of several people.

Rolan's Best Ascension and Investment

Mythic+: The Bossing Breakpoint

Rolan’s defining mechanic, Radiant Reign, becomes available once Mythic+ is reached. A Radiant Ward is created when Morale hits 100%. Any time an ally casts an Ultimate, a radiant clone shows up and recasts that Ultimate. At first, the clone copies 80% of the basic stats belonging to the original hero.

For boss content, this marks the minimum serious investment, since it unlocks the very reason to choose Rolan instead of a conventional buffer. Below Mythic+, his basic kit still performs well; the second Ultimate, however, is the piece that raises team ceilings.

Ahead of Elijah & Lailah and Contess, Rolan holds the current first-priority Celestial/Hypogean investment for PvE.

Supreme+: The Recommended General Build

Once Rolan reaches Supreme+, every hero from the most represented faction adds extra opening Morale. The standard bonus is 6% per matching hero, while Lightbearers and Celestials each contribute 10%.

20 Penetration is also granted to Rolan and heroes of that dominant faction, and they take 50% less damage for the first eight seconds.

What truly underpins his PvP value is this effect. When your formation is mostly mono-faction, it shields almost the whole squad through the riskiest opening stretch. Those eight seconds of survival buy time for the team to fire off Ultimates, push Morale up to 60%, and get Rolan's full engine running.

So Mythic+ already unlocks his bossing identity, yet for newcomers who want to field him in every mode, Supreme+ makes a better stopping point.

Paragon and Refine Investment

Rather than copying one universal stopping point, PvP-focused accounts are better off tuning Rolan's investment to suit their own arena bracket.

Sitting at Paragon 2 makes for a sensible competitive baseline, while Paragon 4 targets players who are up against similarly invested opponents. As for his Exclusive Equipment refinements, the stronger value breakpoint comes at Refine 2: during Rivalry Mode, healing and a shield go to the first ally who drops below 40% HP. Then Refine 4 layers on Healing and Haste, leaning more toward a premium PvP upgrade.

Rolan Exclusive Equipment Priority

Calling Rolan an “EX +10 and stop” hero is not a label to hand out casually.

The radiant clone starts out at EX +5 carrying 90% of the original hero's basic stats, and by EX +10 that inheritance climbs to 100%, completing the core double-casting mechanic. Treat this as the minimum recommended Exclusive Equipment target.

Inside the Radiant Ward, EX +15 means allies regain HP with every passing second, while enemies standing in it keep losing HP. That layers on even more sustain and pressure for Rolan, especially during PvP fights and longer encounters.

In practice, then, the priority order looks like this:

Mythic+ → EX +10 → Supreme+ → EX +15

EX +10 is a reasonable stopping point for now if your only goal is to unlock the boss mechanic. For those who see Rolan as a lasting staple in both PvE and PvP, however, the smarter target is EX +15 — and it makes little sense to act as though that extra field effect is unimportant.

Rolan’s Best Magic Charm

At the time of writing, no confirmed Season 7 Charm recommendation tailored to Rolan appears in the current database. Although the Season 7 guide covers 17 Charm effects, none of them has been assigned to him yet.

Best PvP Teams for Rolan

Lightbearer Multi-Core Shell

Two heroes who get heavy value from temporary stat buffs form the core of this setup. Rolan’s blessing goes to the two allies with the highest cumulative damage, while Aurelian contracts the rearmost ally, steals ATK from enemies, and supplies extra protection, healing and normal-attack support.

Aurelian’s three-Lightbearer deployment requirement means at least one of the two flexible slots has to be a Lightbearer as well, since Orion and Perseus already count as Lightbearers while Rolan is a Celestial. The Utility and Carry slots are therefore best picked as a pair, not handled as two entirely separate choices.

Celestial/Hypogean Support Shell

The trio of Rolan, Elijah & Lailah, and Contess already meets the three-Celestial/Hypogean requirement Midnight Hunter demands, so the focus shifts to your fourth Celestial or Hypogean. Whenever possible, position that hero inside Elijah & Lailah's Stellar Bond; the link will then provide healing, Energy recovery, Haste-related support, and later Ultimate refunds.

That leaves the last standalone slot open for a hero who can function without the Stellar Bond. Midnight Hunter suits this core exceptionally well: kills, assists, and Ultimate casts all build its Ancient Blessings, while the whole Rolan–Twins–Contess engine exists to survive the opening and cycle Ultimates over and over.

Artifact Picks and Placement

For the Lightbearer Multi-Core Shell, you have two choices: Valorshield Spell or Frontline Spell. Valorshield is the safer pick. It grants up to 12 seconds of shields to the frontmost and rearmost allies, leaves both unaffected as long as those shields remain, gives the frontline extra defenses, and hands the backliner 60 Haste. Whenever possible, station Rolan in the rearmost spot so the Haste reaches him and he is tougher to remove before Morale turns on. Frontline Spell is better for more aggressive variants: its opening Movement Speed and Haste push allies into enemy territory, where they pick up permanent shields, and once three heroes have crossed, its banner raises allied damage while cutting incoming damage on that side.

For the Celestial/Hypogean Support Shell, go with Wing Guard Spell or Magicsurge Spell. Wing Guard wants a tight formation, placing a ward on your side of the battlefield; heroes within it gain ATK and Steadfast, and a portion of the damage they would take is absorbed. Try to keep Rolan, Elijah & Lailah, and Contess inside that protected zone whenever possible. For longer fights, Magicsurge offers the more aggressive route: it hits the whole team at the 10-, 30-, and 50-second marks and permanently lowers enemy Vitality, then ATK later. That option performs best if this durable support core lives long enough to reach the later casts.
