Marvel Rivals Tier List 2026: Best Heroes for Season 9.5

Marvel Rivals continues to evolve with frequent balance updates, new heroes, new maps, and major changes to how Team-Ups work. That means a hero who dominated one season can quickly fall behind after a major patch.

For the current Season 9.5 meta, this Marvel Rivals tier list ranks heroes based on their overall usefulness in Competitive matches, including damage potential, survivability, utility, ease of execution, team synergy, and how consistently they can contribute across different maps and compositions.

The rankings are designed primarily for players who want to climb ranked matches. A lower-tier hero is not automatically bad, and individual skill, team composition, map selection, and matchup can all change a hero's effectiveness.

Marvel Rivals Season 9.5 Tier List

This ranking should be viewed as a practical Competitive climbing tier list, rather than an absolute measurement of every hero's strength.

How We Rank Marvel Rivals Heroes

The methodology is important because tier lists can become misleading when they rely exclusively on pick rate or raw win rate.

For this guide, heroes are evaluated using several factors: current patch performance, consistency in Competitive matches, role value, team synergy, survivability, damage or healing output, utility, map flexibility, and how much value a player can realistically get from the hero.

We also consider official balance changes when determining whether an older ranking should be retained. This is particularly important for Season 9 because the update introduced a substantially revised Team-Up system alongside broad balance changes.

A hero can therefore rank highly without having the highest raw win rate. A hero that usually gets a positive W/L can also appear smaller if the games that it gets played in are highly dependent on maps, team composition, or very few data points.

S-Tier Heroes: Best Picks for Competitive

S-tier heroes are definitely the safest option for players who want consistent performance. Their unique kits work well and also benefit the team, and their strength is nearly all the way around.

Peni Parker

Peni Parker remains one of the strongest Vanguard choices for players who prioritize objective control and defensive pressure.

She is particularly good to fight in or around objectives and tight spaces due to her map control over these small areas. Instead of just soaking damage, she actively can push players back or make them burn cooldowns to push on her in objectives and tight spaces.

Peni is also valuable because her strengths do not depend entirely on mechanical aim. Players who understand positioning and defensive setup can generate substantial value from her kit.

Magik

Magik’s threat comes from being among the deadliest Duelists available if you consistently win at close range. Her mobile nature helps to quickly close to engage a weakness to exploit before resetting before an enemy can counterattack; she is even more potent alongside allies who can create openings for her.

She isn’t an outright beginner-friendly Duelist, but skilled players can use her mobility and damage to rapidly rack up kills.

Rocket Raccoon

Rocket Raccoon remains one of the most reliable Strategists out there simply because he has more to offer than the standard healers. Rocket is mobile and sustained, and his utilities enable him to survive throughout longer engagements and be available to sustain aggressive partners.

He is essential when there is a need for a Strategist who can persist while still offering his services and utilities.

Mantis

Another decent Strategist is Mantis; her utility allows her to have some impact in fights without being totally reliant on total healing numbers.

Ultron

Ultron brings a different type of Strategist value through sustained team support and pressure.

His ability to contribute to fights while maintaining his role as a support character gives him a strong place in coordinated compositions. Players who understand positioning can make considerable use of his sustained presence.

A-Tier Heroes: Excellent Competitive Choices

A-tier heroes are reliable choices that can perform extremely well without necessarily being as universally effective as the S-tier picks.

Vanguard A-Tier

Duelist A-Tier

Strategist A-Tier

B-Tier Heroes: Strong but More Situational

B-tier does not mean weak. These heroes can still perform exceptionally well, but they generally have more obvious limitations than S- and A-tier picks.

Groot

Groot remains a useful Vanguard when his ability to manipulate space fits the map and composition. He can become especially valuable when his barriers and positioning tools prevent opponents from taking favorable routes.

Doctor Strange

A solid flexible frontline, Strange really benefits from players who can work with the gaps he generates.

Magneto

Magneto offers good defensive play and strong offense but relies heavily on successful positioning and dealing with pressure from opponents.

Venom

Venom is still a dangerous dive-oriented Vanguard. He works best when the team is prepared to follow his engagements rather than leaving him to fight alone.

Cyclops

Cyclops became an important addition during Season 8.5 and remains a useful Duelist option. His ranged damage gives teams another way to apply pressure without committing to close-range engagements.

Hela

Hela still has a lot of damage potential in the right situations, and her effectiveness will depend a bit on what the other team uses.

Black Cat

Black Cat is dangerous when she can isolate vulnerable targets, but her value depends considerably on player mechanics and the team's ability to create openings.

Star-Lord

Star-Lord remains a flexible damage dealer with strong mobility. He can punish exposed targets but requires good positioning to avoid being eliminated quickly.

Iron Man

Iron Man can produce significant value when the opposing team lacks reliable ways to pressure him. His effectiveness becomes more matchup-dependent against teams that can consistently deny his preferred positions.

Luna Snow

As a Strategist, Luna Snow can still have her niche, particularly for players who favor balanced healers/damagers and useful utility for their team.

Cloak & Dagger

Cloak & Dagger provides flexible support options and can be valuable when the player understands when to switch between their different forms and abilities.

Adam Warlock

Adam Warlock remains a useful choice for teams that can take advantage of his support capabilities and coordinated engagements.

Jeff the Land Shark

Jeff’s utility and survival might not be top-notch, but his value is incredibly high depending on player skill and positioning.

C-Tier Heroes: Use When You Know Their Strengths

C-tier heroes are not unusable. Instead, they tend to require more specific conditions, stronger mechanical execution, or favorable matchups to produce the same value that higher-tier heroes can provide more consistently.

Deadpool

Deadpool can be effective in the hands of a player who understands his mobility and timing, but he does not offer the same consistency as the strongest Duelists.

Hawkeye

Hawkeye can still punish exposed enemies with accurate attacks, but his effectiveness decreases when opponents constantly pressure his position.

Moon Knight

Moon Knight can produce serious damage when opponents group or allow him to establish favorable positions. However, his effectiveness is more dependent on map geometry and enemy positioning.

Loki

Loki remains a highly technical Strategist. His ability to deceive opponents can be powerful, but getting consistent value requires significantly more game knowledge than simpler support choices.

Best Marvel Rivals Heroes by Role

If you don't want to memorize the entire tier list, these are some of the safest choices to start with.

Best Vanguards

Peni Parker is the strongest all-around recommendation from this ranking, while Captain America, Hulk, Thor, and Rogue are excellent alternatives.

Players who prefer objective control should consider Peni Parker or Groot. Those who prefer aggressive frontline play may have more success with Captain America, Hulk, or Venom.

Best Duelists

Magik is the standout recommendation for aggressive players. Storm and Daredevil are strong alternatives, while Blade, Mister Fantastic, and Black Panther can be excellent choices for players who prefer specific combat styles.

Best Strategists

Rocket Raccoon, Mantis, and Ultron are among the safest support choices. Invisible Woman is another strong option for players who want additional defensive utility.

Best Heroes for Beginners

Tier lists do not always tell beginners which heroes are easiest to learn.

For new players, Rocket Raccoon is a particularly practical Strategist because he allows players to learn positioning, team support, and fight awareness without relying entirely on complicated mechanics.

Peni Parker is another good starting point because she teaches frontline positioning and objective control.

For Duelists, Storm is worth considering for players who prefer maintaining distance rather than constantly diving into melee fights.

The most important thing is to learn one hero from your preferred role instead of immediately trying to master the entire roster.

Best Heroes for Solo Queue

Solo queue changes how a tier list should be interpreted.

A hero that depends heavily on coordinated teammates can become less reliable when playing with random teammates. For that reason, flexible heroes with strong individual impact are often better choices.

Peni Parker can create her own defensive space, Magik can generate individual kill pressure, and Rocket Raccoon can provide support without being completely dependent on perfect coordination.

The ideal solo-queue hero is therefore not necessarily the hero with the highest theoretical ceiling. Consistency matters more.

Best Team Compositions

Team composition remains just as important as individual hero strength.

A balanced lineup normally wants enough frontline presence to contest objectives, enough damage to threaten opponents, and sufficient Strategist support to keep the team alive.

Balanced Composition

A balanced team can use Peni Parker, Captain America, Magik, Storm, Rocket Raccoon, and Mantis.

This setup provides two frontline heroes, two damage dealers, and two Strategists while maintaining a mixture of close- and long-range pressure.

Dive Composition

A dive-oriented lineup can focus on heroes such as Venom, Magik, Daredevil, Black Panther, Rocket Raccoon, and Mantis.

The goal is to collapse onto vulnerable targets before the opposing team can establish a defensive formation.

Poke Composition

For teams that aim for pressure at long range, the composition can revolve around heroes such as Magneto, Doctor Strange, Storm, Cyclops, Rocket Raccoon, and** Ultron**. Usually it makes a little more impact in maps that provide the hero sufficient space in order to distance himself and keep putting pressure on the rival over and over again.

How Season 9 Changed the Meta

The biggest reason the old Season 8.5 tier list cannot simply be carried forward is the arrival of Season 9.

Season 9 launched on July 10 and introduced Jubilee, the new Thebes storyline, and a major overhaul of the Team-Up system. The developers described the Team-Up changes as a ground-up revamp, meaning previous assumptions about which heroes worked best together could no longer automatically be applied.

The Season 9 balance update also changed Ultimate energy generation and introduced Regenerative Shields, while adjusting numerous heroes based on both their Season 8.5 performance and their interaction with the redesigned Team-Up system.

That makes Team-Up compatibility an important consideration when evaluating heroes for the current meta.

Season 9.5 and Recent Balance Changes

Season 9.5 arrived on August 7, bringing another round of balance changes. The official update specifically highlighted adjustments involving heroes including Wolverine, Moon Knight, and Peni Parker, meaning the Season 9 rankings should not simply be copied unchanged into the current season.

For this reason, players should expect the tier list to change again as the Season 9.5 meta develops.

How to Choose the Right Hero

The highest-ranked hero is not automatically the best hero for every player.

If you are new to Marvel Rivals, prioritize a hero whose mechanics you can consistently execute. A player who understands a B-tier hero will usually contribute more than someone who constantly switches between S-tier characters without understanding their abilities.

Your choice should also depend on your preferred role. Frontline players should focus on Vanguards, aggressive damage dealers should explore Duelists, and players who prefer supporting teammates should learn Strategists.

Map design matters as well. Long sightlines can benefit ranged heroes, while confined objectives can increase the value of heroes with strong area denial or close-range pressure.

Tips for Climbing Ranked in Marvel Rivals

Focus on the objective rather than chasing eliminations across the map. A high elimination count means very little if your team repeatedly loses the objective.

Protect your Strategists during major fights. Even the strongest damage dealers become much less effective when they have no support.

Avoid using all your Ultimate abilities simultaneously unless the situation genuinely requires it. Coordinating major abilities can create stronger win conditions and prevent unnecessary resource waste.

Most importantly, learn when to switch heroes. If your current pick is being repeatedly countered, changing to a more suitable hero can provide more value than trying to force the same strategy throughout the entire match.

Conclusion

The Marvel Rivals Season 9.5 meta is considerably different from the Season 8.5 environment covered by the original article. Peni Parker remains an important Vanguard choice, while Magik continues to provide excellent Duelist pressure, and Rocket Raccoon, Mantis, and Ultron offer strong Strategist options. However, there is no single hero that guarantees victory. Team composition, map selection, player skill, and the evolving Team-Up system all influence performance. The best approach is to choose a small group of heroes that match your preferred role, learn their matchups, and adapt when the enemy composition demands it. As new balance patches arrive, this tier list should continue to be updated so that the rankings remain useful for players looking to climb Competitive.
